I delight to do Your will, O my God
Psalm 40:8
I never dreamed my second newsletter would be written from a hospital as I undergo a wide array of testing. I don’t want to make this update about my problems, but I will admit I do not have many specifics to share since I have not worked in the café since the middle of October, due to the onset of an unknown illness. God remains just as faithful, though! I will endeavor to share some of His goodness with you in this letter.

First, I praise God for allowing this period of sickness to be a bridge for evangelism. I have spent a significant amount of time in doctors’ offices and hospitals, which has connected me with people I would have never met otherwise. Several medical personnel have questioned the reason for my move from Florida to Detroit, and the honest answer boils down to God’s faithfulness in my life. One particular MRI tech was interested in my role at Awake Café, so I explained our emphasis on building relationships in order to share the Gospel. That led to a brief discussion of how Jesus brings hope relevant to anyone’s struggles. I could tell of other similar conversations, but I want the focus to be glorifying Jesus.
He does all things well, and even though I wish my situation was different, it’s wonderful to see how He is working the unexpected plot twist into His unwavering plan.
Secondly, I thank God for the opportunity to spend more time in prayer, as I’ve had extensive downtime. I still try to help Awake Café in little ways, like writing quotes on the cup sleeves. I often sit at the café while I do that, and God has often impressed me to pause my task and pray specifically for those around me. Some people I know as regular customers; others are complete strangers. Yet, Jesus knows them all, and He is the only One Who can truly help them. I’m thankful He has given me the opportunity to take their needs to Him.

In closing, I want to thank God for each one of you who has been an encouragement to me over the past few months. I don’t take it for granted that I get multiple texts messages and calls every day from people who assure me of their prayers. I am so blessed! May Jesus richly bless you for your caring support!
