“I delight to do Your will, O my God…” – Psalm 40:8
Greetings to family and friends from the beautiful city of Detroit. You’re probably all thinking, “Beautiful?” That’s not the primary descriptor for the inner city. Yet, I find it beautiful because it’s the center of God’s will for me.
I arrived here on August 1st and had a few days to settle into my new place. The Sherman family and other missionaries in the area were all very welcoming. I also love my church family at New Beginnings Fellowship Church. Each one has been such a blessing to me since I arrived.
Discovering my definite role in Detroit was first on the agenda. One of my primary jobs is working as a crew member at Awake Café. The last few weeks have been packed full of training, but God has given me a few opportunities to share Him with customers. Many great conversations arise when people learn I just moved to the city. Their questions enable me to share about God’s guidance and faithfulness in my life. I trust that telling what Jesus has done for me will open their eyes to see what He wants to do for them.
During a recent shift, I talked with a man named Joseph who shared with me his love of philosophy. We discussed topics like the meaning of life, the value of humanity, and how we know what is real. I’m so grateful that God’s Word addresses those subjects and gives us a firm foundation. Joseph expressed interest in further conversation, so I appreciate prayers for wisdom!
Another of my main projects is a discipleship program for the children in our church. The Lord has burdened my heart to minister to them through Bible studies, mentoring, and teaching practical skills. This aspect of ministry is still in the planning phase, and others in the church are working hard to see its fulfillment. In fact, God gave them a similar burden long before He called me to Detroit. It’s beautiful to see how He works like that. Once again, I ask for prayers for God’s direction.
In closing, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for all who support me! Many have encouraged me through calls, texts, cards, and gifts. That has been such a blessing as I am transitioning into this step of God’s will for my life. May His Kingdom go forward, and His Name be glorified!
