Marriage Retreat & Mountain Trip

The software company wants happy employees and is willing to invest in helping them build their marriages. We were able to both receive the benefits and provide some help and childcare for teammates. This is a new concept in this country – and much needed!

Afterwards, we went for a trip in the mountains to connect with Amy’s “brother” and his family. They are still in need of surrendering to Jesus. But we hadn’t seen the whole family together since Covid, so it was a long overdue trip. Our dear friends, Abbie and Rachel, were able to spend a few months here in country and we got to share this trip with them as well.

Building the College Speaking Team

Tom has worked himself out of a job. He has been training a group of locals to take speaking responsibilities in reaching out to colleges, universities and high schools to address the crucial issues that kids are asking about relationships and purpose of life. (You know, easy topics like sexuality, abortion, pornography, trafficking and homosexuality). Now the team is running in front, and Tom is coaching from the sidelines.

In February, they were able to speak to a room full of police constables on the issues of cyber ethics and pornography. They were very well received, and many of the attendees were parents of kids in schools and colleges. They wanted the team to visit their children’s institutions!

The radical religious extremists want to intimidate and shut down anything that is non-Hindu. The NGO director told Tom that the team must not falter or waiver in its activities. They will continue to serve just as they have been doing. Let’s keep them in our prayers!

Pre-Marriage Coaching

Tom has been accused of having the emotions of a trash can. He’s not the typical “counselor” type. Amy is very relatable and engaging. So, it’s been a fun stretch for them to have occasions to speak into the lives of some new couples in recent months. The real challenge is when the flowers and frills of puppy love hit the brick wall of carnality and a couple begins to understand just how deeply Christ’s example of self-giving love affects everyday life. Seeing that level of application of the Gospel to marriage, communication and (soon to be) life together is refreshing, rewarding … and hard work! Jesus wants to express Himself and communicate with the husband and wife as well as the Holy Spirit and the Father in the middle of each marriage.

Small Group Discipleship

This is authentic Wesleyanism. God has brought both young and middle-aged men into Tom’s sphere this season. This ad-hoc group of guys who are in vastly different stages and roles in life all want to grow in their faith. What would give reason for them to come together, encourage one another, and grow in discipleship? The book, Banding Together takes Wesley’s “class meetings” and updates them. Now a group of guys are meeting to encourage and pray for one another while asking some pretty raw questions. In just one week we began to see improvements in victory over sin, practical application of Scripture and better regularity in their time with God.
